Treatment for every pain.

For Children & Teenagers

Osteopathy is suitable for children at all stages of their development.

Children can experience various aches and pains, sometimes related to a sport, or a postural issue, perhaps with a heavy school bag.

Children will require a suitable adult to be present during the treatment.

It is useful for osteopaths to be able to see the spine and any affected areas as well as how the child moves to make a full assessment. For this reason, children may sometimes be asked to remove a shirt but this will be for as brief a time as possible.

For Adults

Osteopathy has long been used to help with physical pains for adults. Whether this be due to trauma such as a car accident or fall, osteopaths can use their thorough examination and medical knowledge to assess the area, referring on to a more appropriate medical expert when necessary.

Osteopaths work under the principle that there may be a number of contributing factors to the symptoms and will therefore evaluate not only the area which is producing the symptoms, but also associated areas that may be contributing to the issue, including past trauma, environmental factors and the family’s health history.

Osteopaths also see many people who have pains due to wear and tear or arthritis. Whilst osteopaths don’t cure arthritis, we can help the body work around a dysfunctional joint. We can also work with the affected joint directly, improving mobility or muscle tension as well as the surrounding joints to aid with compensation.

For Babies &
Mums

Paediatric osteopaths are trained to examine babies very specifically in their own right, not just as small adults. We look for signs of developmental issues and can refer on if necessary.

Mums can also experience aches and pains due to pregnancy, altered positioning during carrying or feeding a new baby and osteopathy can help relieve some of these strains. Osteopathy is very safe to have during pregnancy and after birth.

Interesting points about Osteopathy.

An osteopathic physician does not concentrate only on the problem area, but uses manual techniques to balance all the body systems, and to provide overall good health and wellbeing.

Osteopaths use physical manipulation, stretching and massage with the aim of:

  • increasing the mobility of joints
  • relieving muscle tension
  • reducing pain
  • enhancing the blood supply to tissues
  • helping the body to heal

To an osteopath, for your body to work well, its structure must also work well. So osteopaths work to restore your body to a state of balance, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery.
