At your first appointment, you will be asked questions about the reason for your consultation as well as questions about your general health and past medical history. This is to help me make a diagnosis as well as make sure you are safe to treat and enable me to take into account any pre-existing conditions.

You may be asked to remove some outer clothing to help us access the areas of pain. Some people prefer to wear shorts and a loose vest style top for treatment and you are welcome to wear this or bring these to change into. You are welcome to bring a chaperone if you would like someone with you. The initial consultation will be longer to enable all the questioning and examination, usually up to an hour and return treatments are usually around 30 minutes.

I will examine the painful area and any other areas that may be contributing to your symptoms. Treatment consists of a variety of techniques including soft tissue work, joint articulation and sometimes stronger joint mobilisation. I also use cranial techniques and visceral work when required but any techniques and treatment plan will be discussed with you first and tailored to you.

You may feel some discomfort after treatment, this is not unusual but does not often last long and does not happen to everyone.

I may prescribe exercises for you to do at home or give advice to aid your recovery but this will be specific to you. Some people only require one treatment but it is more common to have return visits. Many pains are the result of accumulative strains and lifestyle choices so it is unlikely that they will all be fixed in one session.
